Aspen University is excited to host the 2010 Graduation Ceremony. Several days of activities have been planned to commemorate the occasion and make your trip to Denver memorable. Graduates and guests are welcomed and encouraged to attend one or all of the events!
To kick off the celebration, Aspen University will be offering Graduates the chance to further their education by earning an “Advanced MBA Graduate Certificate” at a substantial discount on-ground June 24th and June 25th.
To highlight our students’ achievements and hard work, we are providing the opportunity for students to present a summary of their Capstone Project on June 25th and have it published in the Aspen University 2010 Academic Journal. This is an annual peer review journal and a great way to get a publication on your resume.
Graduates are invited to meet some of Aspen’s faculty and staff at the Graduation Ceremony Reception Friday night, June 25th. The Graduation Ceremony will be held at 10AM June 26th, immediately followed by a closing banquet lunch.
All events will be held at the Loews Hotel in Denver, Colorado.
To register, please contact Rachel Caskey at rcaskey@aspen.edu or call 1.800.441.4746.
Upon registering, an email will be sent
to you confirming the events you
identified.
Refund Policy: A refund will be issued if
the change in status has been
communicated by June 1, 2010. For
questions or clarification, please
contact Rachel in Student Services at
rcaskey@aspen.edu
When responding, it is important that you include the total number of people attending each event, including yourself.
Aspen University would like to invite all alumni and students participating in the Graduation Ceremony to enter their story to win the "Florence R. Sabin Educational Achievement Award".
In recognizing Sabin’s will of determination (you can Google her for more information), Aspen University is looking for the best use of an Aspen students education. We are asking that interested students and graduates submit a 200 word email, highlighting a unique or interesting story; an instance in which the information that was obtained through Aspen University’s education helped the student succeed or triumph in a real world situation. The situation could have occurred before or after the student finished the program.
The author of the story chosen will be given the opportunity to share their story at the Graduation Ceremony and will receive the award and honorarium during the ceremony presented to them by a member of Pearson’s Higher Education.
Interested applicants may email their stories to Rachel Caskey at rcaskey@aspen.edu. The deadline for all submissions is April 5, 2010 and the winner will be notified the week of April 26th, 2010.
Graduation Ceremony & Banquet Lunch
Invite your family and friends to attend as you walk across the stage and are recognized for your great accomplishment! This is the formal Cap & Gown ceremony, followed by a banquet lunch. Several interesting guest speakers are being lined up, and this will be a perfect time for pictures with family and staff.
Please note that Students will not
receive their diploma until actual
completion of the programs is reached, in
which case the diploma is mailed to
Graduates.
This will be an event that is held
every other year. The next Graduation
Ceremony will be held in 2012, which is a
very long way away! Aspen University is
requiring that to walk in the ceremony,
students must be enrolled in or have
completed 75% of their program by June 1,
2010 and have a realistic expectation of
completing the degree program in 2010.
For example, for the MBA degree a student
must be enrolled in the 9th course by
June 1, 2010. If you have any questions
regarding whether or not you are
eligible, please contact Rachel in the
Student Services department at
rcaskey@aspen.edu or 1.800.441.4746.
Cost
Graduates that RSVP and pay the administrative fee prior to Sunday, February 28, 2010 will only be charged $149. After Sunday, February 28, 2010, Graduates will be charged $199. The administrative fee includes two tickets (Graduate and 1 guest) to the Graduation Reception, Graduation Ceremony, and the banquet lunch.
For those Graduates wanting additional tickets, the cost will be $49 for each additional guest; children under the age of 12 are free.
Family and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony at no cost; however, the reception and banquet lunch will require a ticket.
The Graduation Ceremony will be held on:
» June 26, 2010 Saturday 10:00AM-Noon
If you are planning on attending any or all of the events, it is of extreme importance that you account for all people that will be attending, including children.
Cap and Gown
It is the responsibility of each Graduate attending the Graduation Ceremony to purchase his/her own gown, cap, tassel, and hood (required for those participating at the Graduate level). These items are required to be worn in order to walk in the Graduation Ceremony. The gown, tassel, and cap need to be black and the color of the hood depends on which school the student is graduating from:
» Light Blue: The School of Education
» Drab: The School of Business and The School of Technology
*Students graduating from The School of Technology fall under the Business category, and therefore
need to purchase the color drab for the hood.
» Midnight Blue: The School of Criminal Justice
» Apricot: The School of Nursing
Aspen University’s school colors are
maroon and gold.
Following are some links to vendors to purchase the cap, gown, tassel, and hood; graduates are not required to purchase from these sites. They are just suggestions to provide students with direction.

Graduation Ceremony Reception
As part of attending the Graduation Ceremony, students are encouraged to attend the Graduation Ceremony Reception Friday night. This is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow students and some of Aspen’s faculty and staff.
The Graduation Ceremony Reception will be held on:
» June 25, 2010 Friday 7:00PM-9:00PM
Capstone Presentation & Publication
Aspen University students attending the Graduation Ceremony are invited to submit a short, 3-5 page summary of their Capstone Project to the Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) for acceptance and presentation at the Capstone Review Session. Students will be given the opportunity to present their projects and findings and have their papers published in the Aspen University 2010 Academic Journal. You must present the paper in person at the event to have it published in the journal.
Aspen University is offering the opportunity for students who have completed their Capstone the chance to present their project and be published in a peer-reviewed journal. It is not mandatory for students to present their Capstone Project in order to graduate from their degree program. Aspen University is giving students the opportunity to present and have their Capstone published, if they wish. It is entirely up to the student and there is no requirement to do so to graduate from Aspen University; it is another event that is being held for Graduation. The Capstone publication that is part of the Graduation Ceremony, and the normal Capstone Project process are two entirely different items.
Since Aspen University is allowing students to participate in graduation, even if they are not finished with their degree program (requiring that students be at least 75% of the way through the program by June 1, 2010), this means that the option to present the Capstone Project will not be available to everyone (Again, do not worry if you are not able to present your Capstone Project; it is not mandatory for your degree completion or to participate in the Graduation Ceremony).
Papers can be submitted into one category aligned to the existing Schools within the University. The existing schools at Aspen University are: School of Technology, School of Business & Industry, School of Health Professions & Studies, School of Education, and School of Criminal Justice. Students may submit up to three papers for publication, but only one paper per category.
All Capstone submissions need to be in the following format and need to include the following information:
- Title page
- Abstract (a summary of your paper)
- Introduction
- Statement of the issues being explored
- Literature review
- Description of the research design used
- Discussion of findings and recommendations
- Bibliography (Reference Section)
- Appendices as appropriate.
All submissions need to be in APA format; for more information and examples, please visit http://www.aspen.edu/cybrary/aspenstyleguide.htm.
A “Best Capstone Presentation” award will be decided by the Academic
Advisory Committee following the Capstone Presentations; one award will be given for each school category. The recipients of the “Best Capstone Presentation” award will receive recognition and the award at the Graduation Ceremony.
Students that have their papers included in the Aspen University 2010 Academic Journal will receive one printed and one digital copy of the journal per accepted paper. The academic journal will be an annual journal. If students have not completed substantial progress on their Capstone, but have another topic they wish to submit to the Academic Advisory Committee, please contact Rachel at 1.800.441.4746. Students may submit up to three papers for publication, but only one paper per category. Only Capstone Projects will be eligible to win the Best Capstone Presentation Award.
The Capstone Presentation will be held on:
» June 25, 2010 Friday 1:00PM-6:00PM
Cost
Applicants that pay the submission fee prior to Sunday, February 28, 2010 will only be charged $85 per submission. After Sunday, February 28, 2010, applicants will be charged $129 per submission.
Students who are not graduating, but wish to attend the ceremony and submit a paper for publication are welcome to do so. Also, if you are approaching your Capstone project and want to get some ideas based upon what other students have done, it might be a great opportunity to sit in on the presentations!
All submissions must be received by Monday, May 31st, 2010.
The following information provides a tentative schedule for the Capstone Presentation and Publication. Articles are submitted by May 31 and reviewed by the Aspen Academic Review Board. By June 7, any requested changes will be provided to the student (for articles submitted prior to May 31 it should take about a week for any editorial changes to be returned). Articles are presented at the graduation ceremony on June 25, 2010. After successful presentation and the updating of any changes requested at the presentation session, selected articles will be sent out for a double blind peer review. Upon updating of any changes required for publication as part of the review, the journal will be published. We expect this publication to be 6-8 weeks after the presentation, sometime in August or September.
